Vestel is proud to announce it will make available in Italy the first Smart TV compatible with the new pan European DVB-I standard allowing Italian broadcasters to test on the market their new Smart TV offering.
The Italian Market Trial of this new transmission technology will allow Vestel customers to experience the reception of linear TV channels both directly from the broadband internet as long as from any traditional broadcast network.
This new technology will allow viewers receiving channels in higher audio-visual quality compared to that available on broadcast and to progressively enjoy a larger number of free channels. Furthermore, such technology will complement broadcast networks to allow receiving TV even in those situations where the standard broadcast reception can proof being problematic or incomplete. The new DVB-I standard will allow connected Vestel Smart TVs to receive in Italy national and regional channels testing this new technology at the same usual channel number, no matter if the TV is placed in a room where the standard DTT signal is either absent or temporarily unavailable due to possible signal quality reception problems.
Italian Market Trial will see the Mediaset main channels (Canale5, Italia1, Retequattro, 20) made available at 1080p full HD quality at channel number 505, 506, 504, 520.
Other TV channels are already available through Smart TV as well, and Vestel Smart TVs will receive all channels from any broadcaster willing to test this new transmission standard in an actual market scenario.
Vestel is one of the first and most advanced manufacturers to bring this new technology in Europe. New Smart TVs will have this new capability already built in, while TELEFUNKEN branded Smart TVs supplied by Vestel and sold in 2022/2023 will receive a standard software upgrade in November to allow also TELEFUNKEN branded Smart TVs sets from VESTEL to be part of such Market Trial.
Obviously activating this new feature is only an option for the end user who can choose to opt in and experience this very first phase of national and regional transmission trial by means of Smart TV. Those viewers/users who, instead, will not be willing to opt in and experience this new feature, will maintain their usual TV experience unchanged.
“At Vestel we feel it is important to stay always at the forefront of innovation, allowing our customers to experience new ways to enjoy all the entertainment they like. This is our mission all around Europe and this is why we took the chance in Italy of being part of this Market Trial supporting with our technical expertise any broadcaster willing to test such new European standard” said Baris ALTINKAYA, VP Marketing and Product Management from Vestel.
“Mediaset has always supported the evolution of DVB and European open standards, so the DVB-I standard represents for us a natural step forward in the evolution of the TV ecosystem and we feel it is very important to test this new technology in a real market environment. We believe DVB-I standard and transmission of TV channels through broadband Internet will become a natural and important integration to the existing broadcast networks, providing free access to best quality programming at the highest video quality while preserving a very natural and familiar viewing experience to the end users. We will make our part to allow the overall TV ecosystem can stay ahead of the innovation path and grant to our audience the quality of experience it deserves” said Alberto BRUNO, Deputy Director of Strategy and Corporate Marketing from Mediaset.
